My editor (and this entire experience) way exceeded my expectations. I knew based on her background and experience that she would provide me with excellent/actionable feedback, but I did not realize I was working with one of the best editors out there.

I was thrilled when I received her notes, edits, and suggestions. She answered all the questions I had in great detail, and posed many that I hadn't thought of, as well as pointing out some (now glaringly obvious) structural issues I needed to address. She diagnosed the issues, and she's helping me formulate a plan to address them. I can't imagine even editors during the publishing process providing this level of expertise/diagnosis.

I feel beyond lucky that I get to work with her - she has saved me from what would have been premature submission to agents. The MS isn't ready, but it will be. Because she handed me the tools to fix it.

I debated hiring a developmental editor because I wasn’t sure if my manuscript needed it or if I wanted to make the investment. After my experience working with my editor, I know with absolute certainty that I made the right decision. My editor was exactly what I needed in order to get this book across the finish line: He's direct and sincere, so I wouldn't recommend him for someone who can't take hard feedback. But, if you can take it and are truly committed to writing an exceptional novel, I'd recommend him 200%. I've had over a dozen critique partners and several beta readers give feedback on my manuscript and, although they were helpful, Randall was able to diagnose the true challenges with the book. I cut close to 15,000 words of my manuscript and wrote another 15,000 to replace them -- but I'm truly proud of the final product. And, even when I thought maybe his feedback was wrong... it wasn't. When I thought about his feedback and discussed it with critique partners, I eventually accepted that he is always right.

He was also an incredible thought partner on some plot ideas: He's brilliantly creative -- in a nuanced, thoughtful way. One of my favorite little subplots emerged from an idea that he seeded.

I'll hire him again for sure (if he'd have me!). Even if this book doesn't get published, I learned so much from the experience and he's made me a dramatically better writer.

I would have been LOST without you guys - I had no community of writers and very few resources to improve my novel. I'm so grateful to have found you. I only have positive things to say.

I am very happy with the experience and results I achieved working with my editor. She was responsive to my concerns about pacing and structure. I knew that the second half of the book moved better than the first and she gave me very specific guidance as to how to improve that. I appreciate the time she spent physically cutting and pasting sections to improve the structure and her thoughtfulness in including feedback that emphasized where things were working well, as well as where more was needed. There were some places within the work where other readers had made suggestions I was resisting, and she moved me through that with her genre-specific knowledge. No question I had for her went unanswered. She has a way of being both positive and encouraging, as well as truly constructive. My editor was fantastic. Literally a day after I queried using her updated letter I received two manuscript requests — my first. (Note — Kaitlin sent this email on 3/26. On 3/27, she emailed to say she had received her third full request!)

Needless to say, I’m very pleased, even though we obviously won’t know for a bit if requests lead to an offer of rep. Whatever happens, she was a dream to work with, and I saw tangible results from these edits.

My editor was amazing. I was nervous in general about the process, because after you work on something for so long, it's hard to untangle yourself from the project, and it feels scary to put yourself out there! She was kind and honest, and delivered exactly the kind of feedback I needed... and a lot of feedback I didn't even know I was looking for. I could tell she really cared about the book and my characters, too. She helped me completely rethink the structure of my book, and helped me think through how and why my book actually belongs in a completely different genre. It's hard to imagine what I would've done trying to self-edit without her input... I would've been like reorganizing everything in a small closet, feeling great, and then opening a door to a huge house still left to sift through. My editor exceeded my expectations. I seriously cannot sing enough praises for him. He was exactly what I was looking for and more, even without knowing all the terms of what EXACTLY I was looking for. His feedback was clear, concise (I do LOVE an organized feedback report and his even had a table of contents!) and highlighted areas of improvement and weak points. As an author, I tend to struggle with sequencing scenes. My editor's line edits helped me build an internal compass for my own writing style. As I began my zero-draft journey, I often felt at odds with the writing advice I found online. While others seemed to produce words with fluidity, my progress felt stalled, like I was fighting for my life for every 500 words. He helped me realize I was busy architecting the entire story before writing a single sentence. However, he had seen this exact brand of over-engineering many times before in authors with technical backgrounds. Hearing it from someone with his depth of experience gave me permission and helped me hone the judgement about where to trust my process and where to get out of my comfort zone. Now I'm less afraid of the murkiness.

When he gave me feedback, I actually could trust that when he said something was good, it really was good. His positive feedback never felt compulsory.

He is an excellent editor who saw my vision for my novel and was able to help me enhance it through insights into plot, dialogue, character arc and exposition. His feedback gave me a great sense of what worked and what did not and ways I might go about reworking problem sections. On our follow up call he was very helpful with elaborating on feedback and helping me to see potential pinch points and ways to incorporate content I already had into a tighter and more compelling story. I would not hesitate to recommend him as an editor and would certainly work with him again.

Although this was my first developmental edit it certainly met my high expectations. With a book that was 150,000 words long I was feeling lost and unsure how best to structure and refine my novel into something publishable. This edit gave me the tools (and motivation) I needed to be excited about my novel again and see its potential (nearly) realized. Truly this is a powerful tool for writers who pants or who are looking for a fresh perspective anchored in actionable feedback.

Before I found this agency I was lost. A writer with ideas and first drafts but no plan, no direction, spinning my creative wheels. It all came together after meeting with Lauren. I found a dream editor who has been by my side getting my book to be the best it can be.

I’ve found more confidence and gained more knowledge than at any other time in my writing journey. I know when I begin the query process I’ll be the most prepared that I can be and hopefully I’ll be able to amend my feedback and add it was because of all of this that I landed an agent!

My editor was a joy to work with on my book editing. She was knowledgeable, professional, and extremely helpful and thoughtful with her edits. She took the time to answer lots of my questions and was diplomatic when presenting different ideas for the flow of my children's book.

I was a bit nervous to share my manuscript with her because of her impressive background and experience. However, she made me feel confident about my writing while providing valuable suggestions for improvement. Our meetings were incredibly helpful, and she consistently followed up in a timely manner with the information she promised. I felt honored to benefit from her editing expertise.

I believe there’s something special about my editor. I’m not sure if it’s a quality he was born with or something he developed later, but after reading just 20 pages of my work, he understood everything. He grasped exactly which sentences in those 20 pages had specific intentions behind them, and there wasn’t a single line where I could say he misinterpreted anything. His reading ability is truly exceptional. He also identified what my writing lacked the most and showed me ways to improve it. For example, he suggested a dialogue like, “How about this?”, I thought to myself, “Wow, you’re really good"".

Without this process, I wouldn’t have been able to elevate my writing to the level it is now.

My editor was an unbelievable editor who understood the intentions of my piece and provided editorial feedback that exceeded my expectations! The structure of his developmental letter was easy to follow and covered characters, plot, worldbuilding, tone and style in great length. He has a keen eye for detail and was able to spot plot issues I wasn't even aware of, and offered solutions to improve these issues. He was very generous with his time and I'm confident that, applying his feedback, I can elevate my book into a much-improved standard that will hopefully entice agents!

Truthfully, I wasn't sure what to expect since I've never worked with an editor before, but my editor’s feedback was helpful! She noted what was working and what wasn't, which helped me narrow my focus for my next draft.

The agency process was smooth and felt very streamlined! Lauren was also really responsive and always got back to me quickly. She definitely knows what she's doing.

My editor was fantastic. I could tell she took the time to read the whole manuscript and really sunk her teeth into the various characters and dynamics I had tried to set up. She thought critically about what was lacking, and in an encouraging way, provided some ideas of how to move forward and improve the plot. Her expertise in the thriller genre was particularly helpful. Her 12-page report was extremely detailed and instructive, and her comments throughout the manuscript provided great insight as to what a cold reader would be thinking along the way.

Everything was super smooth and seamless, and also timely. I got great feedback and new ideas of how to move forward with my manuscript within a month and a half of reaching out to Lauren. Worth every penny.

For starters, my editor read the book in three days, so she saved me a lot of anxiety time. When we had the online consultation, we did a very fun brainstorming and she asked very deep questions about the story that helped me realize about inconsistencies, information gaps and all the changes I had to start thinking about. I got an amazing insight into my story and it helped realize how I can improve it. I am terrified because that involves starting a whole new draft, but I am motivated because my editor worked quickly and with a lot of respect for it.
